Colors!

Some days I see shapes. Other days, I only see color.

I paint ideas. Some days I paint nothing at all, only color.

Color studies have always been part of my creative routine. They aren't meant to become finished works. They are a way of observing how colors meet, how they react to one another, and how a single layer can completely change the feeling of the next. There is no story to illustrate—only the relationship between color, texture, and movement.

Sometimes these studies remain exactly what they are. Sometimes they become the beginning of a larger painting, a greeting card, a pattern, or an entirely different project months later.

Not everything I create is about Great Danes. Some pieces simply begin with color, curiosity, and the desire to see what happens next. These color studies are as much a part of my daily practice as sketching dogs or designing greeting cards. They keep my eyes awake.
