Great Danes
Special dogs, special people? A question. No answer to it. Great Danes are unusual, but does that mean they always end up with the people who truly suit them? Unfortunately, not really. From my perspective, a Great Dane is unsuitable as a guard dog. Many others see it that way too. From my perspective, the typical Great Dane is incompatible with restlessness, stress, and hustle. Parents of many children often see that differently. Pets nowadays unfortunately do not live with us in our homes for their own sake; they are expected to meet human needs. That is nothing new. There is no judgement behind writing this down here. It is meant as a reminder. We share our lives with pets and often expect them to be the way we would like them to be, rather than how they actually are.
Despite all the critical thoughts, I simply like Great Danes. Not for their looks, because they look how they look. For me, they are special dogs; their character hardly fits this large body. Almost all I have met are downright delicate little souls, extremely sensitive, sweet, and anxious – trapped in a large, stately, powerful-looking body. They are not all the same, of course not. But they are almost always incomparable to any other dog.
On this page, you will find art and bits and pieces with some kind of reference to Great Danes. You know how it is: what one person calls art, another calls kitsch and another calls junk. And what one person pulls from a pile of rubble, another turns into a piece of jewelry. I try to express my enthusiasm for this dog breed through design, simply in the way that pleases me. Perhaps there are other beings who will enjoy it too.
The basic idea is easy to explain. A single house helps, but does not change an attitude. Let us become a village in which Great Danes play the leading role. House by house together, working according to one principle, conceived far away from the idea of an animal shelter. Let us consider not only the dog, but also the people. Let us create living space for humans and dogs together.
